September 11, 2001 has changed our lives and our world, but it will only change to the extent that we allow it to change us. It is a time for self-evaluation; for mourning; for new perspective; new understandings; and acceptance of diversity. It is a time to deepen our faith in the goodness of God; a time for love and prayer; a time for unity and forgiveness. Have we not already seen the goodness that has come from the ashes of destruction? We have seen courage and heroic acts, not only from those trained to deal with disasters, but also from the many that put their own lives on the line to help another. We have seen strength, compassion, bravery, and miracles. We have seen hope. Out of the grief and dismay have come heartwarming stories of compassion and love. Those stories are our hope for a bright and safe future. Positive change can only begin within. Our strength and hope lay in overcoming our fear.
